Two Teenagers Drown in Separate Kandivali Incidents as Heavy Rains Continue to Trigger Emergencies Across Mumbai
Two teenagers died in separate drowning incidents in Kandivali West, while a pedestrian was seriously injured after a tree branch fell on him in Andheri amid heavy rainfall in Mumbai. Rescue teams, police, the Mumbai Fire Brigade, and emergency services responded as the city continued to witness fatal monsoon-related incidents.
The first incident involved a 17-year-old boy who drowned in Dingeshwar Lake at Charkop Gaon near Rustomji Building in Kandivali West on Sunday afternoon. According to information received from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Mumbai Fire Brigade Control Room, the incident occurred at approximately 2:18 pm.
Fire brigade personnel immediately launched a search operation at the lake. The National Disaster Response Force was mobilised following a request from the Mumbai Fire Brigade to assist in the rescue efforts. Officials said further details regarding the incident are awaited.
In a separate incident, a 16-year-old boy drowned in a well located behind Sagwadi Chawl on MG Cross Road No. 4 in Kandivali West. The incident took place at around 1:47 pm on July 5 but was reported to the authorities on July 7 at approximately 2:40 pm.
According to officials, fire brigade personnel rescued the teenager from the well using a rope and a first-floor ladder. He was immediately shifted to Nidhi Hospital for medical treatment. Hospital authorities later informed officials that the boy, identified as Prit Sandeep Ganve, aged 16, had been declared brought dead.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, and the 108 ambulance service were deployed during the rescue operation.
Meanwhile, a 50-year-old pedestrian sustained serious injuries after a roadside tree branch fell on him in Mumbai's Andheri area on Wednesday morning as heavy rainfall continued to batter the city. The incident occurred at around 10 am on Nagardas Road near DJ House, close to the Andheri subway.
The injured man, identified as Aadesh Gaikar, was rushed to the civic-run Cooper Hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. Civic officials said his condition remained stable.
Personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Garden Department, police, and power distributor BEST were deployed to the site to remove the fallen tree branch and restore normalcy in the area.
The latest incidents come as Mumbai continues to witness severe weather-related emergencies. Civic officials said three people, including an 11-year-old boy, have died in tree-related incidents across the city over the past few days as heavy rains continue to lash the financial capital, underscoring the growing risks posed by the ongoing monsoon.
